Description
Wemyss Malts, an independent bottler, bottles this 25 Year Old: a 1997 distillation, an outturn of 209 bottles. The first legal distillery in Dufftown, Mortlach builds its meaty weight through low-copper worm tubs and the 2.81 distillation, and has anchored Johnnie Walker for a century.
Twenty-five years in ex-Bourbon saw fresh extraction tail off and oxidation take over, drawing stewed fruit, leather and a nutty depth from the dense Mortlach spirit.
At 51.7% it shows fresh fruit, malt extract, chocolate, citrus and a savoury, struck-match note, undiluted. Mortlach at full weight.
