Description
From Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, this 24 Year Old is cask 4289, a 1989 vintage. Mortlach is the Speyside outlier known as the Beast of Dufftown, its worm tubs and 2.81 distillation building a dense, sulphury, meaty spirit.
Twenty-four years in ex-Bourbon saw fresh extraction tail off and oxidation take over, drawing stewed fruit, leather and a nutty depth from Mortlach's weighty make.
At 46% it shows citrus, honey and an oak-framed depth on Mortlach's muscular frame. Mortlach at full weight.
