Description
Samaroli, the storied Italian bottler founded by Silvano Samaroli in 1968, released this 20 Year Old, cask 7204, a 1997 vintage, an outturn of 300 bottles. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.
Across twenty years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 49.5% it shows cooked fruit and fresh oak, undiluted. A muscular Speyside malt.
