Description
From Van Wees, the Dutch house behind The Ultimate range, this 20 Year Old is cask 6078, a 1990 vintage, an outturn of 792 bottles. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.
Across twenty years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 46% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight over the oily Mortlach weight. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
