Samaroli, the storied Italian bottler founded by Silvano Samaroli in 1968, selected this 18 Year Old, a 1988 from cask 7777, an outturn of 780 bottles. Mortlach is the Speyside outlier known as the Beast of Dufftown, its worm tubs and 2.81 distillation building a dense, sulphury, meaty spirit.

Across eighteen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into the dense Mortlach spirit.

At 45% it shows an oily texture, chocolate, a savoury, struck-match note, dried fruit, fresh fruit and a hay-like note. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
