Description
High Spirits Distribution, an independent bottler, bottles this 17 Year Old, cask 1, a 2004 vintage, an outturn of 318 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Across seventeen years the oak's ellagitannins added structure while oxidation deepened the meaty spirit into cooked fruit and leather.
At 50% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge carried on the heavy Dufftown body, undiluted. The savoury Dufftown style.
