Description
Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh independent founded in 1988, selected this 12 Year Old, a 2009 vintage, cask 305123. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.
Across twelve years in American oak, esterification got underway and the meaty spirit rounded, vanilla and light toffee folding in.
At 59.8% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge framed by the dense Dufftown spirit, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
