Description
Van Wees, the Dutch house behind The Ultimate range, released this 12 Year Old: a 2009 vintage from cask 301467, an outturn of 358 bottles. Mortlach is the Speyside outlier known as the Beast of Dufftown, its worm tubs and 2.81 distillation building a dense, sulphury, meaty spirit.
Twelve years in ex-Bourbon let oak meet weight, vanilla and honey from lignin and wood sugars settling over the gamey, savoury spirit.
At 46% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth framed by the dense Dufftown spirit. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
