Description
Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh independent founded in 1988, released this 10 Year Old: a 2014 distillation. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Ten years in a red wine cask gave the dense Mortlach spirit plum, dark cherry and a drying tannic edge.
At 48.2% it shows dried fruit, an oily texture, old wood, tobacco, a savoury, struck-match note and fresh fruit, undiluted. A Beast of Dufftown.
