Description
Morca Flor de Morca is made by Bodegas Morca, part of the Gil Family Estates group, in Campo de Borja in Aragón. This area, set between the Moncayo mountain and the Ebro valley, is known as the Empire of Garnacha for the old vineyards, some on land worked since the thirteenth century, that produce some of Spain's most distinctive examples of the grape. Morca works exclusively with Garnacha grown on poor, contrasting soils at the foot of the Moncayo, where altitude and cool mountain influence temper the warm climate and slow ripening, which builds aromatic complexity while the full ripeness brings the wine to fourteen and a half percent. Garnacha gives generous red and black fruit and a peppery, herbal character, and the cooler sites keep the acidity fresh. Ageing runs six months in French oak, a relatively short stay that firms the structure and adds light spice and vanilla while keeping the fruit vivid. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows ripe cherry and blackberry, red berries, pepper and dried herbs, with liquorice and a touch of vanilla. The palate is full bodied and warm, with ripe tannin and a long, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees with grilled lamb or roast beef.
