Description
Sveva Sernia and Peter Geier run Morasinsi as a natural estate in Puglia, built around biodiversity and minimal cellar intervention. This red is made from Nero di Troia, the native grape of the north of the region, here picked for freshness rather than power at twelve percent alcohol. The warm Puglian climate ripens the fruit fully, while the clay and limestone soils give the wine its acidity and a faint earthy character. Fermentation runs with native yeast and the wine spends nine months in concrete, an inert material that allows the fruit to stay clean and bright without the spice or grip of oak. The result is light bodied and fruit forward. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose shows raspberry, red cherry and redcurrant with a herbal, leafy note. The palate is fresh and supple, with soft tannin and a juicy, slightly savoury finish that asks for a second glass. This is a versatile food wine that can be served lightly chilled. Pour it at 14 to 16 degrees with roast pork, chicken or a simple tomato pasta.
