Description
Il Franco Il Fine Il Selvaggio is a natural single-varietal Nero di Troia from Morasinsi, grown on the high limestone plateau of Alta Murgia in Puglia, southern Italy. The name plays on the spaghetti-western title and points to the wine's honest, unfiltered character: no added sulphites, no fining and no filtration. Alta Murgia is a cooler, elevated corner of Puglia, where the altitude and stony calcareous soils bring freshness and firm structure to a grape known for its grip. Ageing takes place in concrete rather than oak, an inert vessel that lets the wine settle and soften while keeping the fruit pure and free of wood flavour. The colour is a bright ruby. The nose is fresh and savoury, with strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, rose and a stony, earthy edge. The palate is medium bodied, with crunchy red fruit, ripe tannin, bright acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Being unfiltered, a light sediment is natural. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees in a standard glass. It suits roast pork, poultry and tomato dishes.
