Description
Morasinsi is the project of Sveva Sernia and Peter Geier, two young winemakers working in the Murgia region of Puglia in southern Italy. The vineyards sit on a limestone plateau with a dry, hot climate that stresses the vines but rewards them with concentration and character. The wine is led by Pampanuto, a local white grape, with other white varieties, and is made naturally as an orange wine aged in concrete. Skin contact draws phenolics, gentle tannin and pigment from the grape skins, giving the golden colour and savoury texture, while the inert concrete keeps the fruit fresh and lets the limestone-driven character show through without the influence of oak. The wine is golden in the glass. The nose shows white peach, melon and citrus peel lifted by dried herbs and a nutty, almond note. The palate is dry and textured at a modest 11 per cent, the orchard and stone fruit carried by a saline, herbal finish that reflects the hot, mineral terroir. It is a natural wine. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
