Bodegas Montecillo, founded in 1870, is one of Rioja’s oldest houses, and this limited white puts the spotlight on the rarely used Garnacha Blanca. Seven months on lees and six in bottle give baked apple, acacia and a rounded texture.

Description
Montecillo is one of the oldest establishments in Rioja, founded in 1870, and this Edición Limitada Blanco is winemaker Mercedes García's bet on Garnacha Blanca, a variety seldom made on its own in the region. Garnacha Blanca gives a fuller bodied, gently textured white, and Rioja's calcareous clay soils with their cooler high sites keep the acidity that balances it. The wine spends seven months on its lees in barrel followed by six months in bottle. Lees ageing releases mannoproteins that build a rounder, softer texture and add a subtle nutty depth, while the barrel and bottle time knit the wine together before release. The colour is a bright yellow. The nose is delicate, with baked apple set against the floral freshness of acacia, white peach and a honeyed lees note. The palate is dry and medium to full bodied, rounded and smooth, with pear and almond on a fresh finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
The rounded, lees-built texture suits roast chicken and pork, and richer white fish such as hake or cod. The fresh acidity behind the weight also keeps it good with roasted root vegetables and squash.
