Monteabellón makes this fresh, unoaked Verdejo in D.O. Rueda. Crisp and aromatic, it shows green apple, lemon and pear with the herbal lift typical of the grape and a clean, dry finish.
Description
Bodegas y Viñedos Monteabellón makes this single varietal Verdejo in D.O. Rueda, the home of the grape on the high plains of Castilla y León. Rueda sits at altitude on the Duero plateau, and its extreme continental climate, hot dry summers and cold winters with a wide day to night temperature swing, is what preserves the aromatic freshness and bright acidity that define Verdejo. This is a young, unoaked style made to show the grape at its most direct. Fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature protects the fruit and the herbal, fennel-like character that is the signature of Verdejo, while a short rest keeps the wine fresh and lively. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose is aromatic and crisp, with green apple, lemon and pear over white flowers and a green herbal note. The palate is dry and fresh, driven by clean acidity to a citrus, faintly saline finish with the light bitterness typical of the grape. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with light fish and shellfish.
