Monteabellón 5 Meses is a young Ribera del Duero from Tempranillo, made by the García family at Nava de Roa. Five months in French and American oak frame strawberry, cherry and a touch of blackberry on a firm, fresh frame.
Description
Bodegas y Viñedos Monteabellón is a family estate at Nava de Roa, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, where the García family farms vineyards across several plots and began bottling their own wine in 2000. This is their youngest Tempranillo, given a short oak ageing to keep the fruit fresh and direct. Ribera del Duero sits on a high plateau, with poor limestone and clay soils and a harsh continental climate, where the wide swing between hot days and cold nights builds colour, tannin and deep flavour while preserving the acidity that keeps the wine lively. The wine spends five months in French and American oak barrels, enough to soften the tannins and add a frame of sweet spice and vanilla without overshadowing the fruit. The colour is deep cherry red with a violet rim. The nose bursts with red fruit, strawberry and cherry, lifted by a subtle hint of blackberry. The palate is medium to full bodied, the juicy fruit carried on firm but ripe tannins and bright acidity, with a peppery, lightly oaked finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled red meat, lamb chops and hard cheeses.
