Juniper and herbs meet warm barrel spice, citrus and ripe fruit folding into a fine seam of wood. The famous forty-seven Black Forest botanicals, distilled and then rested for months in mulberry-wood casks. German obsessiveness, given time to mellow into something golden and slow.
Description
Monkey 47 needs little introduction: forty-seven botanicals, many of them gathered in the Black Forest, distilled by Black Forest Distillers into one of the most complex gins around. The Barrel Cut takes that recipe a step further, resting the spirit for several months in mulberry-wood barrels, an unusual choice that lends gentle spice and structure rather than heavy oak. It pours a light gold with warm reflections and arrives in a smart gift box at a full 47%.
The nose layers juniper, herbs and citrus over a subtle woody note. The palate is complex and balanced, juniper and spice meeting fruit and a soft brush of barrel, and the finish is elegant and long, herbal with a fine thread of wood. This one rewards sipping neat or lightly chilled, but it also gives a Negroni real depth.
