Mombacho 12 anos is a Nicaraguan ron vintaged 2003 and aged 12 years in ex-bourbon wood, a molasses-based, column-distilled rum in the soft Central American style. It is bottled at a gentle 40% and aims for harmony and easy drinking rather than power.
The profile is mellow and approachable. The nose carries wood, baking spices, vanilla and a spicy edge, the palate turns spicy, sweet, woody and raisined, and the finish stays mild with wood and vanilla. The overall impression is soft and lightly sweet, harmonious and easy to sip, with a gentle character reminiscent of the more accessible Barbados rums. Twelve years in oak give it just enough wood and spice to feel mature without losing its easy drinkability. A comfortable, undemanding aged Nicaraguan pour for relaxed everyday sipping.
