Description
Miyagikyo Sherry and Sweet is a no age statement single malt from Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery, nestled in a wooded river valley near Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture. Bottled at cask strength of 55% from the 2015 run, it draws on Oloroso sherry casks and was made available in the Japanese domestic market.
The sherry maturation brings a characteristically rich and oily texture to Miyagikyo's naturally soft, fruity base spirit. Dried fruit, cooked vegetable and sherried depth sit over the distillery's gentle orchard-fruit foundation, the full-strength bottling amplifying every layer. It is a bolder, denser expression of Miyagikyo than the standard releases, using the cask to push the house's typically restrained profile into distinctly sweeter, more concentrated territory.
