Description
Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood Finish is a no age statement single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, released in 2020 for event distribution in 700ml format. The expression follows a two-stage wood programme: initial maturation in Ex-Bourbon casks builds the vanilla and malt base that characterises the Miyagikyo style, followed by a finishing period in apple brandy casks that shifts the profile toward orchard fruit and honey.
The apple brandy finish layers crispness and a cidery sweetness over the bourbon-matured foundation, with honey running through the mid-palate. At 47%, the bottling has slightly more presence than the standard 45% core releases, and the event-market format kept it distinct from the wider range. It is a clear expression of the distillery's affinity for fruit-forward profiles.
