Description
Miyagikyo 12 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Miyagi Prefecture distillery, with this particular expression bottled in 2008 during a period when the age-stated Miyagikyo range was well established in global markets. Founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1969, the distillery draws on tall pot stills and indirect steam heating to achieve a softer, more delicate malt than Nikka's Yoichi site.
Ex-Bourbon maturation over 12 years lends vanilla, light caramel and soft wood spice to the spirit's characteristic orchard and red fruit, fresh malt and floral lift. Bottled at 45%, this is a faithful, composed example of Miyagikyo's established style from that era, gentle enough to drink without water but rewarding with a little time in the glass.
