Mixtura Wines blends Galicia’s native Mencía, Caíño Tinto, Brancellao and Souson into this fresh Atlantic red. Aged eleven months in oak, it shows vibrant cherry and blackberry fruit, a peppery edge and the bright, mineral freshness of the region.
Description
Mixtura Wines was founded by Guti Seijo, formerly of Dominio de Bibei, and Mix Tinto is his blend of four native Galician red grapes: Mencía, Caíño Tinto, Brancellao and Souson. Galicia's Atlantic climate, with its cool, wet, maritime conditions, and the region's granitic and slate soils give the wine its hallmark freshness, bright acidity and mineral edge, and keep the alcohol low at 12.5 percent. The grapes are aged eleven months in oak barrels, which rounds the tannins and adds a measure of spice and structure while leaving the vivid Atlantic fruit intact. The wine shows a bright, youthful red colour and open aromas of cherry, blackberry and plum, lifted by black pepper, dried herbs and a clear earthy, mineral note. The palate is light to medium bodied, with crisp acidity, fine tannin and a fresh, savoury finish that reflects the cool climate. This is a vibrant, versatile red that can take a slight chill. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, in a standard red glass. It is a good match for Galician cooking and lighter meats.
