Description
Landmark Chardonnay is made by Misty Cove, the Marlborough winery founded by Andrew Bailey on the South Island of New Zealand. Marlborough is best known for Sauvignon Blanc, but its cool maritime climate and long, bright growing season also suit Chardonnay, giving ripe fruit with firm underlying acidity. This wine is made in a fuller style: the fruit is barrel-fermented and then aged around six months on its lees in barrel. Barrel fermentation and lees ageing build texture, weight and a creamy, faintly nutty character, while the oak adds a light toasted, vanilla frame and a slow oxygen exchange that rounds the palate. The regular stirring of the lees releases compounds that give the wine its breadth. It is bright gold, with white peach, melon and citrus over hazelnut, toasted bread and a touch of honey. The palate is rounded and textured, the oak well integrated, with fresh acidity carrying a long, gently nutty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
Serve with grilled or baked white fish, salmon and seared tuna, where the weight and acidity meet richer flesh. It also works with roast chicken, creamy pasta and hard nutty cheeses such as cheddar and Gruyere.
