Miraval Rosé comes from the ecological Miraval estate in Correns, Provence, made with advice from the Perrin family of the Rhône. A Cinsault-led blend with Grenache and Syrah, pale and dry, with ripe strawberry, peach and a citrus lift.
Description
Miraval is a château in Correns, the first fully ecological town in France, with 600 hectares of vineyards in the AOC Côtes de Provence. The estate produces this rosé with the collaboration of the Perrin family, one of the leading wine families of the Rhône Valley. The blend leads on Cinsault with Grenache and Syrah. Provence has a warm Mediterranean climate cooled by sea breezes and the drying mistral, which keeps the fruit clean and allows picking at moderate ripeness for a pale, fresh style. Direct pressing and cool fermentation in stainless steel preserve the very light colour and the primary fruit, with no skin maceration to speak of and no oak, so the wine stays delicate and aromatic rather than textured. Part of the blend may see brief barrel work for breadth, but the focus stays on freshness. The colour is pale pink. The nose shows ripe strawberry and white peach with a subtle citrus lift and a hint of white flowers and melon. The palate is dry and crisp, the red fruit carried on bright acidity and a faint saline edge to a clean finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is an aperitif first but takes happily to grilled fish, shellfish and salads.
