Description
Miranda d'Espiells is an organic white made by Juvé and Camps in the D.O. Penedès, at Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in Barcelona. It is a single-variety Chardonnay drawn from the winery's own vineyards. The Penedès sits inland from the Mediterranean coast, with vineyards rising to higher, cooler ground that tempers the warmth and helps the Chardonnay keep its freshness and acidity. The grapes are farmed organically, without synthetic herbicides or fertilisers. Winemaking is deliberately clean and reductive: the juice is fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, with no oak at any stage, so the wine keeps its bright primary fruit and a crisp texture. It then rests in bottle for nine months before release, which softens and integrates the wine while retaining its freshness. It pours pale lemon with a green edge. The nose is fresh and direct, with green apple, pear and lemon over white flowers and a hint of white peach. The palate is dry, clean and medium bodied, the orchard and citrus fruit carried on lively acidity to a crisp, faintly saline finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 10 degrees.
