    Mintis Gin Blackcurrant

    700 ml / 41.8%
    New Western

    $39

Dark, berryish cassis tumbles over a cool wash of mint, with spicy juniper and a flick of citrus close behind. Distilled in a family-run Piedmont house from Italian juniper, herbs and fresh blackcurrant, it carries no added sugar or colour, so the fruit reads tart and true. Long, fresh and unmistakably berry on the finish.

Made in a family distillery in the heart of northern Italy, Mintis Blackcurrant takes the brand's Piedmontese base of Italian juniper, citrus, mint and fresh herbs and folds in the natural fruitiness of blackcurrants. It is vegan-friendly, gluten-free and made without added sugar or colouring, so the cassis character comes through clean rather than sticky. At 41.8% the flavours sit in balance, with a distinctly Mediterranean lift behind the berry.

The nose is expressive: fresh blackcurrant, juniper, cool mint, fine herbal notes and a hint of citrus. The palate is intense and well-knit, berry sweetness meeting spicy juniper, minty freshness and a fine citrus edge. The finish is long, fresh and fruity with a clear cassis sign-off. Build it into a Bramble, or pour a fruity G&T over Mediterranean tonic and a few fresh berries.
