Description
Bodega Milsetentayseis is the high altitude project of Alma Carraovejas, set in the Burgos village of Fuentenebro at around one thousand metres in D.O. Ribera del Duero, with the wine shaped by winemaker Patricia Benítez. Altitude is the defining factor here: the thin mountain air gives wide swings between warm days and cold nights, which slows ripening and locks in the bright acidity that frames this rosé. The blend pairs the white grape Albillo with Tinto Fino, the local Tempranillo, and the wine is aged seven months in oak barrels. Barrel ageing on the fine lees gives a creamy texture and a light spice, with the slow oxygen exchange through the wood adding breadth without heavy oak flavour. The colour is a bright pink with a coppery edge. The nose shows fresh strawberry and red cherry, white peach and a vanilla note from the wood. The palate is dry and textured, the altitude acidity carrying the fruit and the lees adding weight to a long savoury finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
