Description
Mijenta Añejo Gran Reserva is a 100% Blue Weber añejo from the Los Altos highlands around Arandas in Jalisco, made under the direction of maestra tequilera Ana María Romero Mena and bottled at 40%. It completes the brand's añejo trilogy as a first batch of 2160 bottles, drawn from a reserve of the house blanco set aside to mature. Mijenta states its tequila is additive-free.
The spirit rests more than eighteen months in four cask types, American white oak, French oak, French acacia and cherry, which layer the highland fruit and floral character of the agave with deeper wood. Highland piñas ripen slowly in iron-rich red clay, lending rounded, honeyed sweetness, and the oak builds on that with cocoa nib, caramel and tobacco on the nose, then dried fruit, spice and coffee across a soft, velvety palate.
