Description
Michelini i Mufatto are a winemaking family who split their year between Bierzo in north west Spain and South America. Motorpsico is built on Mencía, the signature red grape of Bierzo, co fermented with a small portion of white fruit to lift the aromatics and keep the wine light and fresh. The vineyards sit on the slate and quartzite slopes that define the appellation, a poor, well draining soil that stresses the vine and gives Mencía its red fruit, floral character and a graphite mineral edge. The valley's cool nights and Atlantic influence hold the acidity. Farming is organic and the wine is fermented with native yeast and aged twelve months in barrel, used oak that builds texture and a light spice frame without dominating. The colour is bright, light ruby. The nose is fresh strawberry and raspberry with violet, pepper and a stony, mineral note. The palate is light and energetic, with fine grained tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury, mineral finish. Serve cool at 14 to 16 degrees with white meat, charcuterie or mushroom dishes.
