Description
Mezcalosfera is the export label of the Mezcaloteca tasting room in Oaxaca City, releasing one off small lots from individual maestros with the maker, agave and method printed on the label. This joven ensamble was made by Job Cortés from Barril and Tepeztate, just sixty litres distilled in January 2019 and bottled at 45%.
Barril is a wild form of Agave karwinskii, earthy and vegetal with a rounder, faintly fruity side, while Tepeztate, the very slow growing Agave marmorata, brings herbal, green pepper and floral intensity. Made in the artesanal way, the agave is pit roasted over wood for its ember smoke, fermented gently and twice distilled, the two species combining into a dry, mineral and savoury mezcal with a long herbal finish.
