Description
Mezcal Amaras Logia Azul is a joven mezcal made from 100% Blue Weber, Agave tequilana, the same species used for tequila but here grown and distilled as mezcal in Oaxaca. That makes it an unusual bottling, since Blue Weber mezcal is relatively scarce, and it sits in the limited Logia line that the house reserves for its more singular releases.
The agave is cultivated and worked at close to two thousand metres above sea level, in the artesanal style with copper distillation, which gives the spirit a smooth feel and gentle smoke rather than heavy ember. The nose offers fruity papaya and sapote, lavender and herbal jalapeno over soft smoke, while the palate turns citric and vegetal with green pepper and a white mineral note before a long, well held finish. Bottled at 43%, it shows what the tequila agave becomes under mezcal making.
