This Ciguena Collection release from Meyer Baggers is a Barbados rum carrying a 1949 vintage, bottled unsweetened from Bajan molasses distillate. It is a rare, collector-oriented old-style bottling rather than a current production rum. Barbados rum traditionally lands balanced and rounded, a pot-and-column island style showing toffee, ripe banana, vanilla and soft baking spice, fruitier than Cuban and far less funky than Jamaican. With the depth that long age tends to bring, expect a mellow, oak-driven Bajan character in keeping with its vintage heritage.
