Mestizaje Blanco is Mustiguillo’s El Terrerazo white, led by indigenous Merseguera with Viognier and Malvasía. Grown organically above 900 metres, it balances freshness and body, with ripe stone fruit, white flowers and a light bitter twist.
Description
Mestizaje Blanco is made by Mustiguillo at El Terrerazo in inland Valencia, a single estate that earned Vino de Pago status in 2010. It is a blend of the indigenous Merseguera at 60 per cent, Viognier at 35 per cent and Malvasía at 5 per cent. The fruit comes from Finca Calvestra, whose vineyards sit above 900 metres and are farmed organically, trained on goblet and trellis. That altitude drives a wide day to night temperature swing that keeps acidity high and aromatics fresh, while Merseguera lends a saline, structured base, Viognier adds ripe stone fruit and floral lift, and Malvasía brings aromatic detail. The wine is aged on its lees, and that contact releases mannoproteins that build the mid palate and give it substance without weight. It is pale with green tints. The nose evokes ripe stone fruit and white flowers, with a subtle bitter hint that adds definition. The palate balances freshness and body, with white peach, apricot, pear and citrus over a saline, gently bitter finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish and lighter poultry. This wine is organic and vegan.
