Description
Cendra Rosa belongs to Mendall's Alícia range, made within the family natural wine estate that Laureano Serres Montagut, a pioneer of minimal intervention in Terra Alta, has handed to his daughter Alicia Serres and son-in-law Alex Fabregat. It is a varietal Garnacha from their vineyards at El Pinell de Brai in this high inland corner of Catalonia. The plateau sits at altitude on chalky soils, and the cool nights balance the warm days to keep acidity fresh in a grape that ripens readily. Farming and winemaking follow natural principles, with native-yeast fermentation, no additions and minimal sulphur, letting Garnacha speak plainly. A short rest of about four months in stainless steel keeps the wine light and primary, the neutral tank preserving the unforced fruit and supple texture. The colour is a bright, light red. The nose offers fresh red berries and cherry over a peppery, herbal, earthy lift. The palate is juicy and light bodied, the tannins soft, the acidity crisp, the finish clean and fruity. Enjoy it young and lightly chilled rather than cellared. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees. It is an easy match for light, savoury food.
