Menade is an organic Rueda Verdejo from the Sanz brothers, farmed without synthetic chemicals. Three staggered harvests give a vibrant white with citrus peel, white flowers and a fresh fennel-herb lift.
Description
Menade Verdejo is an organic, vegan white from Rueda, made by Bodegas Menade, a project of the Sanz brothers set up in 2005 within the Sitios de Bodega group. It is 100% Verdejo from vineyards between 18 and 30 years old, farmed organically with herbal teas and whey used in place of harsher chemical treatments and organic fertiliser instead of minerals. Rueda's high, stony plateau over limestone brings wide day-to-night temperature swings that lock acidity and aromatics into the fruit, and the older vines give depth and concentration. Three separate harvests are carried out, one with underripe grapes to hold freshness and acidity and others at fuller ripeness, giving the blend both lift and body. The colour is pale straw with green tints. The nose is vibrant, with citrus peel, white and yellow flowers and a delicate fennel note characteristic of the grape. The palate is round yet fresh, with green apple, lemon and pear over a herbal, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10C. It works as an aperitif and with shellfish, white fish and salads.
