Description
Meisner Ochsenschluck Krauterlikor is a Frisian herbal liqueur made by Robert Meisner in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, to an original house recipe and bottled at 38%. A careful composition of fine herbs and spices gives it its character, with bitter almond, cardamom, angelica root, ripe citrus and blackcurrant harmonising into a multi layered, balanced liqueur in the traditional macerated herbal style.
The nose is intense herbs with hints of citrus and a subtle sweetness, the palate a complex blend of spicy herbs, sweetish fruit nuances and a fine bitter almond note, finishing long, mild and harmonious. Behind the bar it works much as a herbal digestif does, adding herbal bitterness, spice and a faint sweetness beneath, which lets it bring bittersweet backbone to a stirred drink the way an herbal liqueur would. It is classically taken neat as a digestif after a rich meal or alongside strong cheese, and a measure works in a dark, spirit forward cocktail or against dark chocolate. Serve it well chilled.
