Viña Meín makes this Ribeiro field blend led by Treixadura with Godello, Albariño and Torrontés. Grown on granite terraces in Galicia and aged on its lees, it is aromatic yet fresh, with white peach, apricot and floral lift.
Description
Viña Meín, the Galician estate now linked with the celebrated Emilio Rojo, is one of the names that revived quality white wine in Ribeiro. Castes Brancas is a field blend built around Treixadura, the region's flagship grape, with Godello, Albariño, Torrontés and other local white varieties adding complexity. The vineyards sit on steep granite terraces in the valleys of the Miño and its tributaries, where sandy granite soils drain quickly and the Atlantic-influenced climate brings enough rain and cool nights to keep the wines fresh and aromatic. The blend is a Ribeiro tradition, each variety contributing a different piece: Treixadura the body and stone fruit, Albariño and Torrontés the perfume, Godello the mineral spine. The wine spends around ten months on its fine lees, which broadens the texture and adds a gentle bready note while the fruit stays bright. Expect a pale colour, a fragrant nose of white peach, apricot and white flowers with a floral, rose-petal lift, and a dry, textured palate with a fresh, mineral finish. Serve chilled at around 10C. It suits shellfish and lighter poultry.
