The Matsui 5 Years Old Cask No. MS-6 is a single cask, cask strength single malt from Matsui Shuzo's own distillery in Tottori prefecture, bottled in 2024 at 48% for the European market. As a named cask from The Matsui range, it draws on the house's own production rather than sourced stock, reflecting the distillery's growing output of estate-grown single malt spirit. The sakura, or Japanese cherry wood, cask marks it as a distinctly Japanese maturation choice.
Sakura cask maturation gives fragrant, floral and citric notes alongside fresh fruit and a light new-wood brightness, and at only 5 years the spirit retains real energy. Cask No. MS-6 at 48% has good weight for its age, with the citrus-blossom quality of the sakura wood contributing a delicate and unusual aromatic dimension not found in Ex-Bourbon or sherry expressions. A young, vivid and distinctly Japanese single cask malt from Tottori.
