Description
The Hakuto Premium comes from the Kurayoshi Distillery in Tottori, a house better known for whisky and no less exacting with gin. Its name nods to an old Japanese legend of a white hare, a symbol of purity and elegance, and the spirit is cut with the soft, clear spring water of the Tottori region. Around a classic core of juniper, coriander and citrus peel, the distillery layers distinctly Japanese botanicals: sakura blossom, green tea, yuzu and sansho pepper.
The nose is fresh with yuzu and orange, gentle floral notes and a spicy sansho lift. The palate is complex and balanced, juniper leading with refreshing citrus, fine herbal nuances and a hint of green tea. The finish is long and gently spicy, a subtle peppery kick closing it out. Pair it with a good Japanese or Mediterranean tonic, or let its complexity shine in a stirred Martini.
