Mates Gold Rum

Mates Gold is a multi origin blend drawing molasses rums from several distilleries together into an unpretentious gold rum. With five years of stated age and no added sugar declared, it sits in the honest, everyday end of the market, the sort of bottle made for easy drinking rather than careful contemplation.

The blend combines pot and column still distillates, the pot component lending a little fruity weight and the column keeping things clean and light. Maturation in ex-bourbon wood adds gentle vanilla and a soft frame, and at 40% the body stays approachable. The aromas lean surprisingly fresh and fruity, with peach, melon and orchard fruit, while the palate turns toward chocolate, ripe banana and a touch of citrus. Unsweetened and uncomplicated, it works well neat for casual sipping or as a dependable base in a rum cocktail.
