Description
Massolino is a family winery based in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, best known for Barolo but equally respected for its everyday wines. This Barbera d'Alba is made in stainless steel with no oak, a choice that preserves the freshness and the vivid fruit that define the grape. Barbera is naturally high in acidity and low in tannin, which makes it lively and food-friendly, and Piedmont's continental climate, with warm days and cool nights during the ripening season, sharpens that acidity while allowing the fruit to ripen fully. The calcareous marl soils of the Langhe give the wine a savoury, mineral edge. Fermentation and ageing in tank rather than barrel keep the aromas primary and the palate crisp. The colour is a deep ruby to purple, with aromas of ripe cherry, red berries and red currant over black pepper and dried herbs. On the palate it is medium bodied and juicy, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and an earthy, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, with rich pasta, roast pork or hard Italian cheese.
