Description
Heredad Mascorrubí is the wine project founded in 2014 by Ernest Pérez-Mas in the high-altitude Pla de Manlleu, in the Catalan interior. Teulera is made from Montònec, a local name for Parellada, a Catalan white best known for its role in traditional-method sparkling wine and prized for delicacy and freshness. The vineyards sit at altitude, where cool nights and a wide day-to-night temperature swing slow ripening, hold acidity and keep alcohol modest, here just 11.5 percent. The wine is farmed organically and aged on its lees, a period of contact with the spent yeast that lends a soft, gently creamy texture without masking the grape's light, delicate fruit. The colour is pale straw with green glints. The nose is fresh and restrained, with green apple, pear and white flowers over a trace of fresh dough from the lees. The palate is light-bodied and crisp, the low alcohol and bright acidity making it easy and clean, with a chamomile lift and a faintly saline close. Serve well chilled at 8 to 9 degrees.
