Description
Heredad Mascorrubí works in Catalonia to recover Sumoll Blanc, a scarce white mutation of the rugged Sumoll grape that was long overlooked for its low yield and austere character. Extincta Vitis, meaning extinct vine, is the estate's tribute to that recovery. The vineyards lie in the Mediterranean interior of Catalunya, where hot dry summers and stony, poor soils concentrate flavour and keep yields naturally low, while the surrounding garrigue of wild rosemary, thyme and fennel marks the wine's aromatic character. This is a young, unoaked white made under organic farming and bottled early to hold its freshness. Without any barrel influence, the fruit and the herbal, saline signature of the site come through clearly. The colour is bright pale yellow. The nose opens on rosemary, thyme and fennel over lemon, green apple and white flowers. The palate is lean and dry, with taut acidity, a stony minerality and a savoury, salt-tinged finish that reflects the warm Mediterranean setting. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.

A natural match for grilled sardines, white fish and seafood off the plancha. The herbal, saline character also lifts green salads, olive-oil dishes and fresh goat cheese.
