Description
Mas Donis Blanc comes from Montsant, the Catalan region that encircles Priorat in the province of Tarragona, and is made by Celler de Capçanes, a long-standing cooperative in the zone. It blends Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo from old vines of 40 to 50 years, planted between 150 and 450 metres across a patchwork of soils that includes limestone, clay, fossil dune and the slate known locally as llicorella. That mix of soils and altitude, along with the cooling effect of height and coastal breezes, keeps freshness in a warm Mediterranean climate. The old vines yield small crops of concentrated fruit, while the higher, limestone-influenced sites add a mineral lift. This is a young, unoaked blend made for early drinking, so it leads with primary fruit and crispness. Garnacha Blanca brings weight and an almond edge, and Macabeo adds freshness and floral aromatics. Expect a pale colour, a nose of green apple, pear and citrus with white flowers, and a dry, medium-bodied palate with clean acidity and a faintly nutty finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.
