Description
Bellmunt Blanc comes from Viticultors Mas d'en Gil, a Rovira family estate in the south of the D.O.Q. Priorat, worked since 1998. The vineyards sit at roughly 350 metres on the slate soils Priorat calls llicorella, a decomposed schist that reflects heat, forces roots deep for water and lends the region's whites their firm mineral spine. Garnacha Blanca brings body and orchard fruit while Viognier adds a floral, faintly apricot lift. The fruit is fermented and aged in clay amphorae rather than oak, a porous vessel that allows gentle oxygen exchange and micro-oxidation without adding wood flavour, so the wine keeps its texture and freshness while gaining a rounder, more savoury shape. The result is pale gold with aromas of white peach, pear and white flowers over a stony, earthy base. The palate is medium bodied and dry, the amphora ageing giving a subtle grip and a long, saline mineral finish that reads as the slate itself. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a standard white glass.

Additional information
Pairs with grilled prawns and seared white fish, the amphora texture standing up to a little richness. The mineral length also flatters roast chicken and baked squash. Good with harder Mediterranean cheeses.
