Bodegas Leda makes Más de Leda from old-vine Tempranillo across low-yielding plots in Castilla y León. Vines of 15 to 25 years on diverse slope soils, with fifteen months in French and American oak, give a structured red of dark fruit and violet.
Description
Más de Leda is a varietal Tempranillo from Tierra de Castilla y León, made by Bodegas Leda, a winery founded in 1998 and based in Tudela del Duero near Valladolid, a village with a winemaking past reaching back to the Middle Ages. The fruit comes from various low-yielding plots of vines between fifteen and twenty-five years old, planted on slopes and inclined ground with a great diversity of soils at altitude. The hillside sites drain well and the height gives the wide day-to-night temperature swing of the Duero plateau, slowing ripening so the grapes hold acidity and aromatic freshness even at fifteen per cent. The diversity of soils and plots adds complexity to the blend. After fermentation the wine ages fifteen months in a combination of French and American oak, which polishes the tannins and layers cedar and sweeter vanilla through slow oxygen exchange. Expect a deep, vibrant red with currant and blueberry fruit lifted by violet, with subtle spice and a sweet oak nuance. The palate is full bodied and structured, the ripe fruit framed by firm tannin and fresh acidity into a long finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant. Built for roast and grilled red meats.
