Description
Le Vin des Amis, the wine of friends, is the most talked about cuvée from Jeff Coutelou's small organic estate at Puimisson in the Languedoc, near Béziers, and a benchmark for the natural wine world. It blends Cinsault, Syrah and Garnacha, three southern French grapes suited to the region's heat and drought. Cinsault brings lightness and perfume, Garnacha red fruit sweetness and Syrah a peppery structure, a combination made for early, easy drinking. Farming is organic and the winemaking natural, with minimal intervention and no oak, keeping the wine fresh and fruit driven. The Languedoc sun ripens the fruit fully while the cellar work preserves its lift. At 14.5% alcohol it stays juicy and light on its feet. It pours a bright red. The nose shows red berries, cherry and red currant with a peppery, herbal lift. The palate is juicy and fresh, the tannins soft and the finish clean. This is a wine for the table and for good company, and it takes a light chill. Serve at 15 degrees. It suits charcuterie, roast chicken and tomato dishes.
