Description
Mas Coutelou En Commun is a natural red from Jeff Coutelou in Puimisson, in the Languedoc, made from Carinena, Cinsault and Syrah. The wine takes its name from a season when frost and hail cut the harvest and a neighbouring winemaker shared her fruit so it could still be made. The vines sit on the warm, stony soils of the Languedoc, and the estate farms organically with a natural approach in the cellar. Rather than oak, the wine is aged in concrete and fibreglass tanks, an inert method that preserves fresh fruit and floral aromatics without adding woodspice. The Syrah lends a peppery lift, while Cinsault keeps the body light and the tannins soft. The colour is bright purple with pinkish tinges. The nose is intense and complex, with floral notes mingling with cherries, white fruits and a note of white pepper. The palate is smooth and light bodied, with crunchy red fruit, gentle tannins, fresh acidity and a clean finish. Serve lightly chilled, at fourteen to sixteen degrees, in a standard glass. It is a flexible red for charcuterie, poultry and lighter dishes.
