Description
Marzadro Noiela is a hazelnut liqueur from Distilleria Marzadro, the grappa distillery in Trentino. The recipe captures the essence of roasted hazelnuts in spirit, and unusually for the category it is built on the house Grappa Stravecchia Diciotto Lune, an aged grappa that gives it a distinctive backbone beneath the nut. It is bottled at 25%, fuller than most cream led nut liqueurs.
The nose is aromatic and nutty, the palate full bodied with roasted hazelnut, vanilla and cocoa, finishing long and full. Behind the bar it works as a toasted nut and dessert ingredient, adding roasted hazelnut depth and gentle sweetness to a glass, with the aged grappa lending more grip than a softer hazelnut cream. It rounds out a Nutty Irishman or a hazelnut White Russian, gives an Espresso Martini a praline edge, and pours neat over ice or over vanilla ice cream. A useful back bar bridge between the coffee and dessert ends of a menu.
