Maruxa Godello comes from Virgen del Galir in Valdeorras, part of the CVNE group. Grown on clay loam with slate on Camino de Santiago slopes, it is a fresh, mineral white of green apple and citrus with a clean, saline finish.
Description
Maruxa Godello is made by Virgen del Galir, a Galician project owned by CVNE since 2018 that has set out to recover small, special plots near the Camino de Santiago at Entoma in the D.O. Valdeorras. The vines lie on slopes of clay loam with some slate and other minerals; the slate holds warmth and drains freely, while the inland Galician climate keeps nights cool, and together these give fresh, distinctly mineral wines with real character. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel and then held three months on the fine lees, which add a light texture and savoury depth from released mannoproteins while the steel preserves the clean fruit and precision. It shows a pale colour with green glints and a nose of green apple and citrus with pear and white peach behind. The palate is fresh and well balanced, the acidity firm and a saline mineral note running to a clean, lively finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass. A good aperitif and a match for shellfish, white fish and salads.
